Have you ever heard music that makes you want to mosh your legs off just as much as it makes you want to call your mum to check in? Well, that’s exactly the experience you get when you tune in to Brisbane alt-rock 4-piece Semantics. Combining the energy of Luca Brasi, the emotion of Title Fight and the musicality of PUP, the band are as much of a joy to listen to as they are to watch on stage.
Forming in 2017 through a bond of orgcore music and metalhead culture, this band of misfits have since played over 100 shows alongside bands including Violent Soho, The Menzingers, WAAX, and Dune Rats (all while there was a raging pandemic going on). Now hailed as “bloody legends!” by friends and punters alike, the group have nowhere to go but up. Music is My Muse put it best,
describing the band as:
“Delivering countenance of truths we all need to hear, Brisbane rockers Semantics blend the seriousness of R U OK day with Ben Lee’s We’re All In This Together optimism to check in with the mental health of humanity on their sophomore EP, If You’re Not Alright” In 2019 things really started to kick-off for the band when triple j gave the group a spot on the Unearthed stage at BIGSOUND, leading their single Drunk to pick up on radio stations and streaming sites alike. Currently, the song sits at over 340,000 Spotify streams! And the group have been in full
swing since. With 2 EP’s and a multitude of singles under their belt and a completed sold-out tour with Sly Withers and Columbus, the group are gearing up to release their next single Sleep At Night and embark on an East Coast Tour around Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, taking local acts The
Sleepyheads and Bad Neighbour along for the ride. A celebration of their signing with Side One Dummy Records! The group are set to release their debut album in 2022. For updates, you can follow the band on social media @semanticsband on Facebook, @semanticstheband on Instagram.
