Drenched in vintage-style synths, and driven by hip-hop inspired grooves, musical and romantic Synth-pop duo Waking April take their musical cues from the likes of Phantogram, Chvrches, and Broods while creating something distinct and fresh.
Alex and Bethany McKee began dating in high school and started playing music together at a small college in North Carolina. Despite performing often throughout their college years, “Waking April” only began to find its true sound after the release of their EP “Bones” in 2017. Alex and Bethany were joined by childhood friend Joy Pernecerio who toured with them all over the country, including the Gerald Ford Amphitheater in Colorado and Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh NC.
Joy left the band after 2 long tours leaving Alex and Bethany to figure out how to carry on as a duo. The couple were married in October 2017 and spent a long time experimenting musically, touring on a small scale, and working out what the future held.
Now, Waking April is back with an edgier and more robust sound. Embracing their electronic influences and expanding their instrumentation has breathed new life into the duo’s music and live show. New releases on the horizon have given Alex and Bethany vision for the future, but the duo has never lost the heart and soul of their music: good songs, great performances and honest lyrics.
